Emil Berggren leaves Sävehof – quit

Emil Berggren leaves the Sävehof.

The sporting director himself confirms to Sportbladet that he has resigned.

– I will not be able to travel from Norway, says Bergren.

Emil Berggren is a prominent figure in Swedish handball and has spent the past three years at Sävehof.

There, Berggren was the sporting director of both men’s, women’s and youth at the largest handball club in the world. But now time in that role soon ended because Berggren had quit.

– I resigned last Thursday. I will not be able to travel from Norway and in the process of reorganizing the club now, I have told the management that they better plan without me, he says.

Moves to Norway with Roberts

Emil Berggren will soon move to Norway where his partner Jamina Roberts will play Vipers Kristiansand. He says there are “common feelings” after the decision.

The job is fun in many ways and I have many nice co-workers. But another part of me feels tickled by being able to break free and get some peace and quiet from time to time. You are never free as a sporting director at a club like Sävehof, says Bergren.

There is no ready alternative

During Berggren’s tenure as sporting director, Safhoff’s men won the Swedish 2021 gold and the 2022 Gold Cup. The women were within victory of the 2022 Sweden Gold.

Sävehof does not yet have a ready replacement for the sporting director and it is not certain that he will be replaced directly. Berggren’s service can be divided.

– I will continue to work for two months until everything is ready. If they then wanted to keep me in a small, petite assistant role, that might be a good fit, he says.
