Will Hamilton be punished?
A photo from this weekend’s competition in Spain sparked huge discussions in the media and on social media. The photo shows Lewis Hamilton very close to Sergio Perez Red Bull and is reminiscent of an accident in Brazil in 2021 when Max Verstappen touched Hamilton’s car after qualifying and was fined SEK 500,000.
The photo from Barcelona shows Hamilton walking at Parc Fermi and moving close to Sergio Perez’s car. Hamilton has been called into a completely normal doping control after the race and most indications are that he moved through Parc Ferme after leaving a doping test. But does he touch the car? It is very difficult to see in the photos whether he touched the car or not, but if he did, he risks a huge fine.
Max Verstappen has been fined half a million crowns after touching a 2021 Mercedes.

It’s not entirely clear in the photos if Hamilton is related to Perez’s car, but since the car is at Parc Ferme, it’s clear which rules apply. He shouldn’t cheat on her, and he shouldn’t be there without permission.
Verstappen was judged in 2021 according to Article 2.5 (1) of the FIA International Sport Code (Internatioenlla Bilsportförbundet rule book) which states:
Only designated administrators are allowed in Parc Ferme. Cars may not be handled, inspected, repaired or operated, unless approved by the above-mentioned officials or in accordance with applicable rules’.
The debate over the photo is likely to continue – until the FIA comments on what happened.
