During the spring, Damallsvenskan was fraught with major debates about provisions. Players, leaders and experts have criticized the ratings made on several occasions, hence the frustration in many matches.
The majority of the feedback relates to individual ratings, but much of the criticism is also based on a perceived lack of communication from the judges.
Saga Fredriksson, an expert on Viaplay, believes referees have played crucial roles in “many matches so far”.
As a player, I know how disappointed, sad and frustrated you are, but at the same time I have great respect for the refereeing profession and how difficult it is. Judges are just as vulnerable, so they needed help, she says, recalling yesterday’s controversy as an example.
– If you need to look at the position several times in a replay and still can’t see if the ball is completely inside, it is impossible to see it as a line leader. The level should be higher, that’s it. “Having the goalkeeper in the goal” does not mean that the ball is also present at the same time.
So what is the solution?
It is very difficult to give a clear answer, but openness and communication usually help.

What are the rules for referee statements after matches?
In the end, it is the judge who decides whether he wants to speak or not. You do not have the right to speak to the referee, but the team has the right to say no. Sometimes the media wants a statement that some feel comfortable with. Others choose to give up for various reasons, says Pernilla Larsson, the referee coach and former elite referee with the most refereed matches in Damallsvenskan.
What do you say about the aforementioned ruling?
My spontaneous reaction is that it is not possible to say nothing or in the pictures I have seen. There will be speculation and opinions on both sides.
Pernilla Larsson says they are actively working with the communication part.
It’s my business to find a reasonable level of communication on the field, but the referee can’t be a yoga teacher when someone yells at him. I read the reports and we don’t actually have many cards to protest. At the same time, the players have to agree that it’s a match for the referee as well, and that’s one of the most important issues we work with.
Larsson says that in her new role for the season, she’s keeping tabs on all the reports and ratings the keepers are leaving. Certain cases are also reviewed in the group of judges responsible for them.

She believes that the partial explanation for the criticism has to do with the new television agreement with NET.
Pictures and production are much better now than before. This makes all the material more visible than usual, maybe it’s not about the level of judging in general, she says and explains:
On the other hand, this allows us to go deeper into the analysis of the bets, and then the media has poor control over the rules and the players do not care how they are interpreted.
How?
– You don’t always get loaded and sometimes it ends up being the judges’ fault, when it’s the players and leaders who don’t know the rules. Our job is to follow them – we didn’t invent them. Some things are judgments, others are pure errors of black and white rules.
