In a single year, how did Vicki Bloomy go from being the go-to expert to being a broad and lovable soccer expert?
Get into her car and you’ll see the answer soon.
– Fortunately, no one sees anyone from Vasteras, she says.
Vicki Bloomie could have been one of the defectors’ side.
The No.10 backpacking midfielder featured in Eskilstuna United for damallsvenskan in 2013, but still only gave a best half-season streak. In July 2014, the 24-year-old terminated his contract and retired.
At the time, the truth was that women’s soccer players quit the sport by simply tying their buttons. A Pia is here, and Vickan is there, but almost everyone else has fled to civilian life and never returned.
Vicki Blommé knew it all but wanted to contribute to change, so she got an extra unusual crack.
– I was part of a project called “24 Karat”, which brought together former elite players from the women’s team to keep them in football. But I didn’t have time to take the club team but called a match analyst at the Federation, she says by phone from her home in Västerås.
He became full-time in his fifties
How did it go?
– I had the chance to start from there. When I was trained, I was sent to test in the women’s national under-23 and boys’ national teams. She has filmed and produced tactical clips.
There are probably a few who would consider this career path to exist.
– yes. Therefore, the project was very good. There are a lot of jobs in football and women are needed everywhere.
Vicki’s mother name is Lotta Hellenberg and she is the captain of the F16 national team. But she did not sell football as a smooth career option, but the path to the position frustrated her daughter.
– It’s an excellent example of how difficult it is for women to be exposed. She was an elite damallsvenskan player in the 1980s, but had to come a long way as a youth coach for many years, combining football with a regular career as a teacher. Until the age of 50 only she became a full-time coach. Few have that energy, says Vicki Blume.
Is the economy the culprit?
– It’s a part. On the woman’s side, the pay is generally lower, so you have to take a civilian job and that combination takes all the power. Difficult to meet. It gets worse because women have a harder time getting jobs than men, even if they go to the same education and are just good coaches. Especially on the boys and men side, they are not even looking for female trainers. If they want to gain the skills, only more women will get jobs, but they will be transferred to women’s football.
Imagine this argument being used by women’s opponents in men’s soccer as well. “They are quoted. People say if you only seek skills, girls will not have a chance.”
– yes. This is the ugliest thing I’ve ever heard in my life. It takes a lot for a woman to have the same opportunity as a man. Once a woman arrives, she can get great support, because expectations are very low. But don’t miss the praise for the individual examples made easy for all women.
“It’s not fun…”
Actually, that wasn’t what we were going to talk about, we’ve been stuck here for a while. The reason we conducted our interview was due to the fact that old Serie A fanatic Blome was picked up on TV, where she could have combined her detailed tactical knowledge with her growing passion for Italian football. This season she expanded to become a Studio C More expert for the Champions League and this summer she plays the same role in the European Women’s Football Championship.
This was really what I was wondering. How life has changed for a match analyst who no longer has time to cut tactical sequences from boys’ international matches because everyone wants to hear her opinion on Karim Benzema och Mohamed Salah?
– It’s a luxury to work with what I love most. It’s a lot of work, a lot of preparation, many evenings in the distance. I asked my husband and our in-laws to help take care of our two children. Another change is that I spend less time in my civic job.
Are you an accountant right?
I am an accounting consultant. Annual reports, salaries, etc.
It doesn’t look quite as fun as a CL final.
– It’s not as fun as the CL final. It’s fun to run your own business, but football is more fun.
You obviously know a lot about tactics, but how do you convey it all? How did I miss your language?
– I’m bad at playing the stage, so I have to go in and be myself. Maybe it was good, because from what I hear, I’m seen as normal in the studio.
Only this?
– And that I found a good way to prepare. I’m talking to myself in the car.
Genre actor without an audience?
– yes. It’s a good idea to test how you express yourself, or what to start with when showing tactical weather. What is clear? A lot happens spontaneously, but I get the security of talking to myself in the car from Västerås.
So you get behind the wheel and test 45 seconds…?
– Yes, 45 seconds at Inter. My thoughts. I started it on my own and told my speech pathologist that C allows me to go for it. Seems like a good way to not sting but get steered, so I’ll continue. Fortunately no one sees.
Excuse me. Can we attach a camera to your car and film a trip?
– number. And I don’t talk all the way. As long as I can’t listen to myself.
