Rosenqvist: ‘A very big Swedish day’

Marcus Ericsson hails his Indy 500 victory. Competitor Felix Rosenqvist, who came fourth in the Classic, congratulates his Swedish teammate.

– A very big Swedish day, says Rosenqvist after the race.

The Swedes were fast at the Indianapolis Classic Car Race in Indiana, USA.

– Great fun to have such a good race. It’s 200 laps and you have to prove it all, and I really feel like we did today. He really gave us this opportunity, got involved and fought for victory, he says Felix Rosenqvist In an interview with motorsport publications after the race.

‘Nothing opposes it’

Rosenqvist himself had the lead in the race in Indianapolis, but the car wasn’t really enough for this Sunday against the fast Chip Ganassi cars.

– We were too slow when we were alone in the “clean air”. Ganassi was very fast. Marcus was the one who came and approached the rearview mirror when I lay down and drove, and eventually drove around me, we had nothing to oppose.

Fourth place is also Rosenqvist’s best place to date in the race, and he appears satisfied with the effort.

– Fun for him, a very big Swedish day. Marcus wins, I’m four, and we both fought for victory. I felt that any of us could have won this race. As a Swede, it is really interesting to see the flag there and Marcus drinking milk, he says and continues:

– Of course, it’s the most important thing in his career.

‘Biggest Swedish victory’

Many people are applauding the 31-year-old from Komla, including three-time Indy 500 winner Dario Francetti.

“Absolutely huge work,” he wrote on Twitter, adding that it’s hard to imagine Ericsson’s hard work with his stable to improve himself and the car.

Swede Kenny Brack, another Indy race winner, praised Ericsson’s drive and described the performance as “fantastic fun”.

Everything can happen at the start of the second half, but Marcus did a very good job. He tells SVT Sport there are no mistakes but he is impressive from start to finish.

He also congratulates Formula 1 driver Nico Hulkenberg, while Swedish Sports Minister Anders Yagmann described Ericsson’s win as historic:

“This is how he became the second Swede in history to win the 805km race,” Yegman wrote on Twitter.

Former Defense Secretary Sten Tolgfors agrees to the congratulations:

“The biggest Swedish victory in 23 years, probably the biggest ever. Winning an Indy500 race makes him one of the greats not only in racing, but in the entire sporting world,” he wrote.
