Historic Ingrid Lindblad during the first round: ‘Unmatched’

Best Amateur Ever – Leading the Competition

Amateur Ingrid Lindblad, 22, got off to the start of her dream at the US Women’s Open.

The Swede finished the first round with 65 strokes, the lowest score ever recorded by any amateur in the tournament.

Tears almost fell into my eyes, says expert Anders Sjöstrand on Viaplay.

Up to eight Swedes take part in the US Women’s Open at the North Carolina Pine Needles Classic.

Hottest name in advance?

Annika Sorenstam51, who ended her professional career in 2008. Last year, she beat all opponents in the US Senior Open, giving her a free spot for this year’s main competition, which takes place between Thursday and Sunday.

Historically good by Lindblad

Sörenstam came out with the same ball with another Swede: 22-year-old Ingrid Lindblad who ranks second in the world among amateurs.

And what a start Lindblad got.

The Swede made seven birdies and a bogey and finished the round by six under 65 strokes. The lowest result achieved by any amateur in the tournament since its inception 77 years ago.

– I’m about to cry in the eyes. It must feel so wonderful to her. To come out with Annika Sörenstam on her first lap of the US Open. Late 65 strokes it. Absolutely unparalleled, says expert Anders Sjöstrand on Viaplay.

Lindblad of Ringenäs plays college golf daily at Louisiana State University.

Anna Nordqvist is currently second after having had 67 strokes. Annika Sorenstam went on 74 strokes.
