On Friday, Martin Beauquist broke his silence after being expelled as assistant captain of the national team on April 1.
In a key interview with Sportbladet, he spoke and claimed that he had not been told by the union why he was forced to leave but that he still knows.

The Handball Federation, led by national team manager Hannah Vogelstrom, was able to respond to Boquist’s criticism and statements, but stuck to its version: “He spoiled the management team because it is the best way forward for further development.”

– I have a clear opinion: someone from the Handball Federation should say what it is. As I explain it, the collaboration didn’t work well. For me, it’s not a big problem. You don’t work with all people. I think you made it too hard for yourself by not saying what it is. Had they done so, such a commotion would not have occurred. It has taken on huge proportions and the union itself is to blame for it, says Staffan Olsson.
He was the captain of the national team in 2008-16 with Ola Lindgren.
The ex-colleague agrees.
It gives a bitter taste to everything. Martin held the job for six years and did a good job and so he got these mysterious words. At this level, you can speak in plain text explicitly what the problem is. No one has responded that Glenn wants to change assistants because collaboration isn’t working. At this level, you should be able to communicate honestly with an employee who has been there for six years, Lindgren says.
Do you, like many others, think it has something to do with Solberg wanting another assistant?
– But it can’t be anything else! I know Martin. If he receives such information, I assume it is correct. Objection to “corrupting the management staff” after winning the gold medal at the European Championship. What have they spoiled? what happened? what has been done?
Not much?
– exactly! If you want to spoil the organization, at least have something ready to offer, says Lindgren.

Christian Anderson took over the national team after Lindgren/Olson in 2016 and remained until 2020 when he was replaced by Glenn Solberg. Anderson was always Buquist’s assistant.
Martin got a very unworthy result after a very successful stint for the national team when he was in the lead. It’s boring boring. I have known Martin intimately since 2016 and have, and always have, great confidence in who he is and what he says. One of the reasons I chose him as my assistant was because he was always straight and honest.
Ola Lindgren also reacts to the fact that it was the national team manager Fogelström who had to deal with the whole problem from outside the federation.
– It’s a little embarrassing to send Hanna Fogelstörm into the spotlight like this. There are higher people in the organization who can be held accountable for this.

– exactly.
Anderson thinks, however, it’s on Vogelstrom’s table.
– She is the national team manager and she has to face her now. But it’s not an easy situation given that these vague answers would be about “spoiling the business”.
Glenn could have acted more straight.
Lindgren played for both Boquist (in the national team) and Solberg (in the German Nordhorn). He’s criticizing the Norwegian here.
– I think Glenn can be supported in this and say “I want to change the assistant captain.” He says he has no mandate to hire or fire anyone. No, but the Federation would never have taken Beauquist if Solberg had not wanted it. There, Glenn could have acted more clearly against Beauquist, says Lindgren.
Anderson on Solberg’s actions:
I have spoken to Martin and I have great confidence in him. I haven’t spoken to Glenn and can’t say more than that I trust Martin very much on all the different things.
Olson on Solberg:
– If Boquist’s statements are true, it is as if there is a lack of communication between them.
Does this hurt Swedish handball and Swedish handball?
I don’t think it’s a positive image of Swedish handball. My opinion is that Martin is old enough to finish better than this. It’s sad for Swedish handball to be like this, Andersson says.
Hard to say, no idea, says Olson.
– No, I don’t think so, but the height of the falls is higher before the house toilet. If the result is not good there, people can react to the fact that they have changed into a winning concept. But I don’t think it will hurt in the long run, says Ola Lindgren.
