Team captain gives Mick Schumacher a crash ban

Ahead of the Formula 1 race in Baku, Haas team principal Gunther Steiner increased the pressure on Mick Schumacher.
It prevents the German from colliding in this week’s Grand Prix in Azerbaijan.
Steiner says it should never go on in the same way.

How often is it okay to crash? Mick Schumacher looks thoughtful (TT/AP)

After the Monaco GP and before Formula 1 in Baku, Formula 1 continued to discuss Mick Schumacher’s crash. Not only because his car broke in two in Monte Carlo but also because F1 now travels two very fast lanes where there is always an imminent danger of jamming the car. At Sunday’s Grand Prix, city tracks await in Baku and then the classic Canadian Grand Prix.
Between the competition in Baku and the first training in Montreal, it takes less than five days and the cars will also be transported to another continent.

Then there is no room for accidents – neither in the table nor in the finances of the team to some extent. The cost of a crash of this caliber in Monaco is estimated at 10 million dollars.

He doesn’t have to go on at all in the same way, but he knows it too. It’s also not healthy to hit a wall, and when he does, he doesn’t score any points. Steiner tells RTL he knows that, too.

F1 in Baku – Long straight curves and technique

Baku, is one of the fastest city trains on the calendar. The track is six kilometers long, but it is 2.2 kilometers long and drivers can reach speeds of more than 350 kilometers per hour.
Add to that a number of very challenging techniques and drive through the old town, and the track over the years has been tough on tires and many drivers have suffered punctures at the end of the races.
It happened with another Max Verstappen squad, Red Bull, 2021.

Ahead of this year’s Grand Prix in Baku, Haas is now demanding that Mick Schumacher perform and finish the car. He has now driven 28 F1 races without taking any points – but on the other hand he has been involved in several accidents and stopped the car twice. If it happens again, he can count on a real layout of the stable manager.

– Sure, sometimes spare parts also run out, and we don’t have time to produce new ones, motorsport-total.com quotes Steiner.
The problem isn’t really money, it’s production. We don’t have five different shapes of carbon fiber, but we do have one. And when you then have to make several new parts, it takes time.

When the races are very close to each other in time, but at such vast geographical distances, it becomes a huge problem.
In other words, no accidents are allowed in Baku.

IndyCar on America’s Road

Felix Rosenqvist is back on the track he won in 2020 (Arrow McLaren SP)

IndyCar continues to deliver. Race every week and now it’s Road America’s turn in Wisconsin. A track won by Felix Rosenqvist in 2020. He then became the first Swede in 18 years to win a race in IndyCar.
Last year, he missed that race after a violent crash in Detroit, but is now back.
Road America is a place with very good memories for me, so I’m really looking forward to getting back there this weekend, says Felix Rosenqvist.
– It’s a nice classic course with good overtaking opportunities and an interesting mix of curves, and a place that can punish you badly if you don’t care about the tyres. There will always be good races out there.

Marcus Ericsson is also charged. He won the Indy 500 nearly two weeks ago, he had a strategy that didn’t quite work as well as he imagined last week and is now second in the championship.
“The goal is to win it too,” he said before last weekend’s race.
Training starts today, and the race is scheduled for Sunday.

Linus Lundqvist delivers

Over the weekend, also competing is Linus Lundqvist, who has done incomparably well at IndyLights. He leads the championship in a big way when he now reaches seventh of 14 races. His race will be scheduled for Sunday at 16.35.
– Detroit was a perfect weekend for us, but now there’s a complete focus on Road America and trying to do something good there, says Linus Lundqvist.
– I’ve learned he can turn really fast in this sport, so I really don’t take it for granted, but I’d be lying if I said we’re not aiming for a new victory. Everything else is going to be weird given the speed we have now.
