Bestad. Prize money increased in European championships.
It will benefit Swedish players who receive a standard bonus if they succeed.
– In principle, it seems that we are distributing prize money to the players, says national team manager Marika Domansky-Lefors.
The Swedish women’s national team is on the cusp of a unique tournament.
A well-known standard factor before the tournament is the level of the prize money.
UEFA had previously announced that the amounts would be significantly higher compared to the 2017 European Championships. At that time, the team had to share 8 million euros. In 2022, the total amount is expected to be 16 million euros, equivalent to about 170 million Swedish kronor.
If Sweden wins all its matches and takes the gold medal, the Swedish Football Association will be awarded around 22 million Swedish kronor in prize money. Sportbladet can now reveal that most of the money will be distributed to the team’s players, and there are 23 in EC’s current squad.
– The soul is to put all the prize money on the players, then the tournament will cost a lot. The further you go, the higher the cost. To an extent, this is how all the player prize money goes, but if you go all the way, that’s not exactly all. Some go to costs afterward, Marika Domansky tells Lesfors.
Register a reward for success
It will be a standard bonus if you succeed. During the 2019 World Cup, Swedish players, according to Sportbladet’s experiences, earned about 250 thousand SEK each.
The International Football Association Board (SvFF) previously reported the basic agreements for the national teams in the men’s and women’s team, which are the same. The bonus has been added and only applies during the 2022 European Championship. The details are only left before the agreement is ready.
– I know they will be satisfied. It’s not that these players are looking for money, but they do want to feel that their efforts are being appreciated. And they feel it, says the national team manager, who points out:
– So we are generally not satisfied. We must work to get better conditions from UEFA and FIFA.
The differences between the men’s and women’s tournaments are still significant. The 2021 European Championship for Men has garnered a staggering 3.7 billion Swedish kronor prize pool.
Swedish football lives largely on income from participating in the men’s tournament. Girls whose participation should be able to generate. We are not there today with UEFA and FIFA.
Marika Domanski Lifors is a driving force in Swedish women’s football. She has a long experience in the tournament and says in Bastad, in the relaxation camp before next week’s European Championships, that everything is fine:
– We’ve never had a bigger team before. I usually say you have to have a central line with world class players and now we have a lot more than ever. We couldn’t get better conditions than this – with everything from travel, accommodation, leaders and how everything is organized.
