Beach Volleyball World Cup: Paramedics cut off after injury

Joanna Heydrich shrugs her shoulders at the World Beach Volleyball Championships.

Now her teammate Anouk Vergé-Dépré is angry at the medical service and witnessed the event.

“We shouldn’t feel insecure and weak”she writes.

Last weekend, it was decided to hold the Beach Volleyball World Cup in the Italian capital, Rome.

In the women’s bronze match, the Swiss duo Joanna Heydrich / Anouk-Verger Debre faced the Germans Senja Tillmann / Svenja Muller.

Then bad scenes happened.

Heydrich shrugged his shoulders while she was serving, screaming in pain – then had to wait 25 minutes to be taken to hospital by ambulance.

Now teammate Anouk Verge Debre is demanding measures for future tournaments.

Joanna Heydrich is in pain.

“Why didn’t they act?”

In a post on Twitter She lists a number of points she considers to have failed in relation to the injury of fear she saw the medical staff and the organizer.

“With such a short distance from everything, I feel like I can’t just sit here and calm down. Especially because it’s about a global tournament like the World Cup.

Why did the medical staff not act directly and make quick decisions?

Why wasn’t there an expert on site to find out what is the most common injury in sports?

Why don’t they speak English fluently?

Why didn’t they fix her shoulder?

Why did they make her sit all the time?

Why didn’t they cover it up with a headscarf instead of keeping everything visible to the public and TV viewers?

Why did it take 25 minutes before the injured player was finally taken in an ambulance to the hospital? “

Contact the union

Vergé-Dépré says she has been in contact with the Swiss Confederation, which will take the issues to a higher level.

“I am not writing this to make you feel sorry for us as a team. This is something that needs to be addressed. We athletes should not feel insecure and weak. This should not happen again. I hope the organizers of future tournaments will make sure all the nurses are trained and properly prepared.”Skriver Vergé-Dépré.

Joanna Heydrich has not commented on the nurses’ actions, but wrote in an Instagram post that she “broke her heart” when she cut herself and lost a medal.
