Christian Svensson continues at IFK Skövde

In 2021, Christian Svensson put his handball shoes on the shelf.

During the fall, it was time to put them back together again when IFK Skövde had injury concerns at nine metres.

Now there will be matches going on at Skövde for the 41-year-old’s next season as well.

– The idea is that I will play until Christmas, he tells Sportbladet.

After the finals of the Swedish Championship in 2021, Christian Svensson chose to end his handball career.

But when IFK Skövde ran into injury problems at nine metres during the fall, the right-hander opted to return to his parent club.

When the final signal appeared at the Arena earlier in the spring and it was clear that Skövde had lost his second straight Sweden final, it was unclear what would happen to Svensson’s continuing handball career.

Now the 41-year-old says he will continue to play, something Skövde Nyheter was first to report on.

– I said I do better for the association as long as I get a good summer internship. I trained with the team after the season and will be driving when we start after the break. The idea is that I will play until Christmas, Christian Svensson tells Sportbladet.

The idea is that he will rest the team because Victor Ljungquist is still injured for the long term. What will happen after the break in January remains unclear.

The risk I would like to continue would certainly be there. But it depends on how things go and how everything feels.

– The body goes on for another season, I think so, says Svensson.

“Got it with a paddle”

Christian Svensson was thrown straight into the hot air in October last year after being named to his role as assistant coach all summer.

Now the right winger is training with the team as usual to be in good shape until the handball league starts again.

– I try to keep going because I learned that last summer when I didn’t, but I got used to it with a bit of a paddle and stuff from time to time, that the starting distance was too long. He says this summer, I will drive and be ready.

Right winger Christian Svensson will stay another year at IFK Skövde.
