An unexpected name appeared during the week of the Swedish championship in Linköping.
Comedian Bjorn Gustafsson participated as a map reader in Wednesday’s rally race with Patrick Hallberg.
In the name of honesty I mostly sat and howled. It’s going really fast, Gustafson says in SVT.
An initially unexpected name came up for Haninge MK at the SM gathering.
The comedian was with 18-year-old driver Patrick Hallberg Bjorn Gustafsson Included in the starting field in the 2-wheel drive competition category.
– I’m interested in engines. I love rallies and I love to drive fast myself and I saw this as a way to get out on the track and ride with someone who really can. I myself come from a small village, but that’s another thing. It’s going incredibly fast, Gustafsson tells SVT.
Newcomer on the march
The comedian is new to the sport and obtained his rally license late the day before the competition.
No problem, says Gustafson.
He is an experienced map reader with many years of experience, including from family holidays in Italy.
Patrick Hallberg looked forward to driving with the 36-year-old.
– Fabulous! Talent at SVT said before the race, we were told he was interested in the cars and wanted us to go with him, so obviously we’d take him back.
Starting his career
Unfortunately for the newly formed duo, it was a qualifying travel pass. Björn Gustafsson “sat and screams the whole time” according to Hallberg, who still praises his map reader.
– He overwhelmed it a little but it worked out well, says Hallberg.
Bjorn Gustafsson was also satisfied.
– It’s not just a debut in the Swedish championships, it’s an all-time start. I start this career and now I don’t see any restrictions. Who knows where I will be in a few years?
However, he does admit that Patrick Hallberg memorized the course and didn’t need to read a map.
In the name of honesty I mostly sat and howled. It goes quickly.
