It was not possible to refuse the offer there

Jacob Rehn is ready to open in Saudi Arabia

Now the Swedish goalkeeper tells about his five years at Aalborg, the future, pays tribute to former coach Marti Cifuentes and talks about choosing the club.

– It was an offer that simply couldn’t be refused, he says.

Swedish Jacob Ring He was one of the best goalkeepers in the Danish league during his five years at Aalborg. But after his contract with the club expired, it was clear for some time that the 29-year-old was leaving Aalborg on new adventures.

Now the goalkeeper is ready to open in Saudi Arabia as he joins Sweden’s Robin Quaison in the league.

– It may well be sinking now that I have had to leave Aalborg and Denmark. We have just finished moving and now live in Örebro, where we have a bed apartment. Then I’ll have a little vacation and after that I don’t know exactly when I’m going to go and join the club, he says.

What can you say about your choice to go to Fatih?

No, but if I had to try to keep it short, Agent Miro and I sat 1.5 years ago and made plans for the future.

It was during the pandemic and maybe it wasn’t that the clubs spent so much money and that there were so many options for me. So we agreed to start the contract with Aalborg. And in January, she managed to negotiate with other clubs. There may have been some good clubs from the premier leagues I’ve heard of, but in the end no one could compete with Al-Fateh, which is simply too good to say no.

Rinne continues:

– It’s a good sport because the league is the best in the Middle East and so of course it’s about the economy. So you can say that everything went according to plan, he says.

He also plays with Robin Quaison in Saudi Arabia and Al Ettifaq.

– As I said purely mathematically, I heard that the league is the best in the Middle East. But the economy is clearly talking. It will be a change for me and the whole family. Many say that the heat is the main change, but also the arrival of a new culture and so on.

How do you see your five years in Aalborg?

– It was good, I had to play a lot and I was in a great environment. My family and I enjoyed a lot there and have two kids in the meantime.

I’ve had to play continuously for five years and have more routine, which makes you feel safe and better as a goalkeeper at all levels.

You had Marty Cefuentes as your coach. What do you say about his departure to Hamrabi?

– At first it was a shock. I couldn’t believe it when I found out about it during our winter vacation, but I thought it was just a rumour.

– But then it got weird there when Marty wanted to leave at once and jumped on the Bagen train and Aalborg wanted more money, so it was a little … Maybe not a fuss, but you had different opinions.

I love Rinne Cifuentes.

– It was also seen on Marty that he wanted to leave. Considering his family situation, one understood that as well. It was sad for us at the time, but it was good for Hammarby. I love Marty. He’s a good coach, we had a good conversation and got along really well.

You have been called up as a reserve for the latest group for the national team, how do you see Blågult?

– Personally, I think I deserved to be with him much earlier, but now it is. I did not settle among the other regulars. In terms of club selection, I didn’t think about the national team at all, there was nothing about club selection when I valued the future.

You are now at home and training with your former club Örebro SK. How do you feel about those who have had a bit of a hard time with Superettan?

– Yes, they are now eight years old, which is a difficult starting point. But it was only a third of the season. There is a long way to go and they should be able to focus on game after game. I think maybe the press was hard on them and they felt the press and it turned out to be wrong. But I think it has to do with the fact that he will need to reset in terms of taking one game at a time.
