Yukiya Sugita hasn’t scored for Allsvenskan since the match against Norrköping in October 2020.
Tonight, the Japanese had to rejoice again – when Sirius lost Beijing 1-0.
It was a tough start for the home team Norrköping. The team was forced to make an early change to star attacking Christopher Niemann, when the 29-year-old received a blow to the head after a duel with Jimmy Roach at Sirius.
Instead came 20-year-old Daryl Camdem Tibel, who had only briefly appeared on the Allsvenskan before.
But the first half did not contain many chances to score goals. After 40 minutes, David Mitov Nilsson complained from the right, got past the lopsided defender to score 1 – 0, giving Sirius the lead.
When the referee exploded half the time, it was still 0-0 on the scoreboard.
Sirius and coach Daniel Backstrom chose acting. Filip Olsson and Yukiya Sugita are replaced. The latter had been plagued by injury issues last year, and had only made 145 minutes off the Allsvenskan this season before tonight’s game.
First goal since October 2020
But the Japanese will give Sirius a reason to rejoice. The ball was steamed at Sugita, on the edge of the penalty area – and the midfielder shot. 1-0 to the away team, and thus Sugita can be noted with his first goal since October 2020. Which team did he face at that time? Norrköping, far away.
Sirius then had a great opportunity to expand through Christian Kwaku, but Oscar Jansson in Beijing’s goal saved it.
The home team tried to press for a draw but Sirius was behind and thus was able to bring the three points to Uppsala. As a result, Sirius climbed to 10th place in the table, while Norrköping slipped to 11th place.
