The accident could have cost Guanyu Zhou his life.

But he survived the horror accident at Silverstone unscathed.

Zhou was involved in one of the most horrific crashes we’ve seen in Formula 1 in recent years. After starting the UK GP he had a terrible accident and after the car flipped, climbed up and down for a large number of metres, the car flew over the tire barrier and got stuck between the tire barrier and the spectator fence.

These were horrible scenes and it’s a wonder the safety of the sport today is so good that Cho was able to get back on the track – without suffering any fractures or other injuries.

Guanyu Zhou compete in Austria

In fact, expect to compete at the Red Bull Circuit in a few days:

– I feel good and look forward to competing in Austria, he says.

– It was a terrible crash and fortunately I’m fine. The staff and medical team on the track were fantastic.

The FIA also thanks the cospit’s protective aura, which is simultaneously made of titanium that can withstand 12 tons, and for the work done to improve safety in racing. This was again proof that they were the right decision to introduce halon in 2018. In the same year that Charles Leclerc rescued after a launch crash at the spa, in 2020 he helped Romain Grosjean in connection with a violent accident in Bahrain and in 2021 he helped. Lewis Hamilton was not badly injured when Max Verstappens put marks on his helmet in connection with their collision on Monza. Drivers such as Max Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton and Romain Grosjean were very critical of the Halon when it came, and now it looks different.

Romain Grosjean also thanked Hallon for giving him a second chance after the Bahrain incident.

Cho was not the only driver who needed to undergo a medical after the crash on Silverstpne. Alexander Albon, he is hospitalized, but he is fine and expected to be able to compete this weekend.

“I’m really happy that all the drivers who were involved in the accident at Turn 1 are doing well,” says Albon.
