shout. A loss in the quarter-finals of the European Championship 2017, a loss in the semi-finals of the World Cup 2019.
Is it time for Sweden to take revenge on Holland now?
– For me, it saves extra fuel, says Magdalena Erickson before the premiere.
Stena Plaxtenius remembers almost nothing about losing the quarter-finals to the host nation in the Netherlands in 2017.
The semi-finals of the World Cup in France 2019 became even fresher.
– It was a long game… They scored good goals late in the game… I don’t remember much if I’m going to be completely honest, but it was a big loss and a game with extra time as well, says Blacksteinius.
Maybe it’s just good to suppress memories. However, there is no doubt that Sweden wants to end the Netherlands’ impressive record.
“We are better now”
We find an incredible desire to avenge these losses we have suffered. Somewhere we also feel like a stronger national team now than when we played the Netherlands before, says Blacksteinius.
– It’s been at least two years…three years since we last played against them and three years have given us an incredible amount. We have become a better national team which everyone can attest to. It also means that faith in this is only growing.
Her teammate Hanna Glass thinks the latest loss is really snappy.
– Then it ended in bronze anyway, but it is there and adds the right-back.
Magdalena Erickson uses defeats as an added incentive.
I feel a little bit of revenge, and I want to get a good result against the Netherlands for many different reasons. It puts a little more fuel on that fire and embers, she says.
Sweden will play the group stage match with the Netherlands on Saturday in Sheffield.
