Switzerland’s Alesha Lehmann, 23, has been selected to play her first major tournament.
But a few weeks before the premiere, she canceled – due to mental illness.
– She said in a statement that I did not feel mentally prepared for the European Championship.
She may not be the most popular name in Sweden – but she is a hit on Instagram. With 7.7 million followers, Alisha Lehmann, 23, is one of the biggest influencers in women’s soccer.
The Swiss player, who belongs to Aston Villa on a daily basis, was supposed to be part of the squad that will play this summer’s European Championship on Saturday. But just a few weeks ago, the 23-year-old announced that she is taking a break from the national team and will face her first major tournament – for psychological reasons.
– It’s a personal decision. “I am not mentally prepared for the European Championship,” she said in a statement.
Lehmann scored six goals in 33 matches for the red and white teams.
– We wish Elisha all the best. If the time is right for everyone, the door to the national team will open. “The priority for us now is to work with players who are 100% motivated and ready for the European Championship,” said national captain Nielsen after Lehmann’s decision.
I found love in a club mate
Despite his mental issues, Lyman seems to have found a bright spot in life. Earlier this year, she announced her affair with Aston Villa player Douglas Luiz. The 24-year-old made five caps for the Brazil national team and came to Villa ahead of the 19/20 season. On Instagram, they shared a photo with the text “I love you”.
Previously, Lehmann was with fellow national teammate Ramona Bachmann. Last year, the couple announced that they were separating after three years together.

Switzerland plays in Group C along with Sweden, Portugal and the Netherlands.
They started the tournament with a match against Portugal at 18.00 on Saturday.
