The prize money at the World Championships in Athletics in Eugene increased compared to the World Championships in Doha

Eugene. The Eugen World Cup Gold Medal awards the equivalent of SEK 750,000 in prize money.

This is an increase of just over SEK 100,000 compared to the last World Cup in Doha 2019.

And the Russian fines are paid to the party.

The Russian Athletics Federation was fined $10 million early in 2020 for violating IAAF anti-doping rules.

Now 2 million – 21.2 million Swedish kronor – has been set aside to dilute the prize pool at the World Cup here in Eugene and at the World Cup in Budapest next summer.

This means Mundo Duplantis will be generously rewarded if he wins the expected gold medal at the World Cup in the pole vault.

If he also sets a new world record, he will receive an additional $100,000 – approximately SEK 1.06 million in bonuses.

Add to that all the deals Mundo has made with his sponsors, and World Cup gold is worth several million, even if he doesn’t jump 6.21.

But if he manages to hit the new record high, the financial reward will double.

Mundo belongs to a small group of athletes, maybe a dozen, who have these extra amounts built into their sponsorship contracts. It’s about several million, but at the same time he got it. He is unique in athletics, as his manager Daniel Weisfeldt previously explained.

Total prize pool – 90 million SEK

Prize money has been raised in WC for all placements down to eighth place.

World Cup silver awards $35,000, and bronze $22,000.

Then there’s the scale down to eighth place $5,000, or about 53,000 crowns.

The total prize pool is $8,498,000 – or just over SEK 90 million.
