Torstein Træen was tested for doping – he had cancer

Torstein Træen, 26, had a regular routine check-up.

Then the doctors discovered that the Norwegian cycling professional had testicular cancer.

– I started to feel pain when I sat down, he told Norwegian TV2.

Like all other professional cyclists, Torstein Træen, 26, undergoes a routine doping test. The test resulted in the Norwegian receiving a call.

– They said: You have to go to the doctor. Because you have something in your body called hCG,” Træen tells Norwegian TV2.

Usually men should not have the hCG hormone in their body, and in most cases, when you have it is a sign of testicular cancer. Inspection of the tree was requested as soon as possible after the announcement.

After further examinations and blood tests, it was found that the cyclist was indeed suffering from testicular cancer. What he initially experienced in slight pain soon worsened.

– In retrospect, you realize that it wasn’t quite normal. I started to feel pain when I sat down. I started palpitating a lot, and had chest pain. Train says it wasn’t very comfortable.

“I was lucky”

A little over three weeks ago, the 26-year-old underwent a successful surgery and is now doing well under the circumstances. In addition, he has already started cycling training again.

– You can safely say that I was lucky. Doctors found him very early. They found a 15mm tumor, and they say I have the mildest of the two testicular cancers. Since it hasn’t started to spread, I don’t need any further post-op treatment, he said.
