Michael Applegren becomes assistant coach of Glenn Solberg

After Martin Buquist left his position under notable circumstances, new assistant coach Glenn Solberg is now in place.

Michael Apelgren of Sävehof is now on the national team squad.

Sweden has made great strides tactically and the dialogue with these talented players in the national team is something I love and believe in, he told the national handball team website.

The position is full-time, which means that Apelgren continues in parallel with his stint as coach of Sävehof, which he has successfully led since 2020. So far, SM has a gold championship and a trophy in his track record as partille’s captain. Previously, he was in charge of the Norwegian giant Elverum for six years.

Swedish handball is underway and it would be fun to be a part of that journey, with a home restroom six months away. Sweden has taken great strides tactically, new players are coming up all the time, and the dialogue with these talented players in the national team is something I really like and believe in, Apelgren tells the national handball team website.

Glenn Solberg On his new assistant coach:

– It feels so good that Michael agreed to my request and that the association supported the process along the way. Michael is a hardworking coach with extensive experience as a coach and player.

Replaces Martin Boquist

Apelgren replaces Martin Beauquist, who earlier this year spoke exclusively to Sportbladet about his resignation. There, among other things, he leveled sharp criticism at both the Federation and how they handled the situation.

– This is “Sweden’s handball development”… It’s not something they ever talked to me about. From my point of view, it’s just that Glenn doesn’t want to work with me. That’s what I was told. And the only reason for that, I was told, was what Glenn told me – that I didn’t confess it. But I didn’t think it was part of my job description to confirm for himBoquist said, among other things.

Today, he is an assistant coach in the Norwegian national team.
