Jakob Ingebrigtsen wins water course bronze in 5000m: ‘Unmatched excellence’

Norway finally took WC gold on the final day of competition in Eugene.

Jacob Ingbrigtsen retaliated and played at home 5000 metres.

– It feels great, says the 21-year-old.

Jakob Ingbrigtsen was the favorite in the 1500m, but missed the gold medal after a tactical error as he lost to the sprint.

Instead, it was a great revenge that was long overdue at an altitude of 5,000 meters. The Norwegian dominated the end of the race and grilled the contenders hard in the last three laps.

As the race approached, he got a gap and barely went the distance, before stopping off the finish line and clocking a winning time of 13.09.24.

“Unparalleled superiority,” said commentator Jacob Hard at SVT.

“It’s the toughest race I’ve ever seen,” older brother Henrik tells NRK.

Three Norwegian medals

Jacob Ingbrigtsen lay down, pointed a finger and shouted “Yes” and then hugged his girlfriend Elizabeth Asserson.

– I won and that was what I needed. It feels incredibly big. “I wanted to show that I’m better than others,” says Jacob Ingebrigtsen.

The feelings were very strong after there was only a silver medal in the 1500m.

I was very disappointed after that race, not because of the silver but because I didn’t do my best. I have to thank Elisabeth, Henrik and the team around me because I was able to prepare well for this race and was able to do my best. In recent days, I’ve been very excited to respond and show the world what I can do, Jacob Ingbrigtsen tells SVT.

In 2018 in Berlin he won EC gold in both the 5000m and 1500m, at the Tokyo Olympics last year he focused on the 1500m and won the gold medal.

In addition to his two WC medals, Eivind Henriksen took the WC bronze in the Hammer for Norway.
