Former US President Donald Trump hailed the LIV golf round, which is being played this week at his course in Bedminster, New Jersey.
“What they do in golf is very cool, and what they do for players is very cool,” says the 76-year-old.
Donald Trump, who has a handicap of 2.8 according to Golf Digest, was in attendance on Thursday, as sponsors, celebrities and players test the course before competition. He wore a red “Make America Great Again” hat and played with his son Eric and American superstars Dustin Johnson and Bryson DeChambeau.
Then, the former US president, owner of the course in Bedminster, New Jersey, where this week’s LIV Tour event takes place, spoke to the media.
-You (LIV Tour) really have the best players in the world, many of the best players, and soon you’ll have them all,” said the 76-year-old continued:
– Their salaries (players) will increase a lot. As you know, PGA has not been loved by many gamers for a long time. Now they have an alternative and no one can guess that there will be such a rush for gold.
Stenson makes his debut
On Friday, Swedish star Henrik Stenson made his LIV tour debut. Last week he was stripped of his role as Europe’s Ryder Cup captain due to his choice to switch from playing on the European Tours and European Tours to the LIV Tour.
The LIV round is funded by the Saudi State Investment Fund PIF and the total prize pool is $255 million (approximately SEK 2.5 billion). Saudi Arabia is accused of trying to discredit it with regard to, for example, human rights through sport, the so-called sports washing.
