Not only was he one of the first golfers to join the Saudi-funded LIV Tour – he also made several controversial statements about Saudi Arabia.
– We know that they killed Khashoggi (Washington Post reporter Jamal Khashoggi) and they have a terrible attitude towards human rights and executed people because they are gay. Why would I even think of working with them when I know that? Because it might give me my only chance to influence what the PGA Tour should look like, says Mickelson in an interview book by author Alan Shipnock.
Affect before hitting
Mickelson apologized for his words and took a breather from the competition but did not back down from the decision to play the LIV Tour, possibly because he was given more than 2 billion crowns to play.
During this weekend’s LIV competition at Donald Trump’s Bedminster Stadium in New Jersey, Mickelson was harassed by a spectator, the Daily Mirror reported.

Mickelson seemed to be moved by the screaming as he took two steps off the ball to collect himself. He was also at the bottom of the scoresheet for the first two days of competition.

Things went even better for Henrik Stenson, who leads after two days of competition.
The Swede was in a joint lead with Patrick Reed after Friday and extended further when the holes were set up on Saturday. Stenson is nine strokes below par, which is three strokes better than Dustin Johnson heading into the Sunday segment.
If Stenson wins the singles competition at Bedminster, he will take home 41 million crowns in prize money, on top of the 550 million he was said to have earned for joining the LIV Tour.
