He broke the EC final at Wembley when England won the crowd record

London. 87,192 spectators is the largest number of spectators in an EC ever, for both women and men.

The three most attended football matches in Europe in 2022 were women’s football matches: 1) 87192 England – Germany, 91.553 Barcelona – Real Madrid, 91648 Barcelona – Wolfsburg.

– It was unreal, says European Championship gold champion Chloe Kelly.

There were scenes of unbridled joy at Wembley and across the country when England won gold at the European Championships.

English footballers, German footballers and experts applauded the attendees.

– It was unreal. Old Trafford feels long gone, but we don’t forget those who came there to see us. Or in the squares on the road. The crowd was great. Now I hope the fans can continue to enjoy this journey in the WSL as well because it is a long journey,” said Chloe Kelly.

“It’s just the beginning”

Many were aware of the EC’s historical impact in terms of interest, “The legacy of this tournament is social change,” Captain Leah Williamson said after the match, among others.

– This is football here at home. We want to play here, we want to fill the stands and get as many people here as possible. It’s just a matter of jumping on the bandwagon and hopefully people will follow along. This is just the beginning, says Georgia Stanway.

Even the German players took a beating despite losing 2-1 in extra time from the EC final.

It was a great feeling to play here. The crowd was wonderful. Although almost everyone was against us. It was a very special experience. We don’t usually have that audience, and then we’d probably play in front of 1,000 people. I think England did really well because all the matches were well attended. Marina Heggering says it was great to play in front of the fans in all arenas.

Just need a platform

More than 7,000 people watched the match in central London’s Trafalgar Square, where they also bathed in the fountain.

– That was great. The whole season was wonderful. We played in front of 90,000 spectators at the Camp Nou. This year was different and I think it’s just the beginning. I really hope that more kids will start playing football now that they have role models. We just need a platform and today it was huge, says Felicitas Rauch.

According to The Sun, £46.1 million was spent on alcoholic beverages and more than 8.7 million pints were drunk.

In the UK, 17.4 million viewers watched the match on BBC and 5.9 million on live streaming services.
