Charlotte Vogberg withdrew from the European Commission – still sick long-term

Charlotte Vogberg, 36, was forced to withdraw from the European Commission.

She still suffers from a mysterious, long-standing illness, the cause of which is not yet known.

– I only hope to recover soon, she says.

Ended October 9, 2021 Charlotte Fogberg Third place in the Stockholm Marathon in the respectable time 2.31.08.

Since then, the running star has not competed in a single competition.

Earlier this summer, she revealed that the absence was due to a mysterious long-term illness that she suspects may be caused by the Covid vaccine.

This disease still haunts us.

Return to the European Community

Fougberg withdrew his invitation to the European Commission Outdoors in Munich, which will be decided between August 15 and 21.

Now the 36-year-old says that in her current situation she wasn’t even close to being able to go.

– I already gave up a little over a month ago. We were hoping for a miracle, but it didn’t happen, she says.

Currently, Charlotte Vogberg can only run a maximum of six to eight kilometers – and still sees that as a huge improvement over what she was a few months ago when she could barely run at all.

“I take it day in and day out really, but it’s frustrating, especially since it’s affecting my daily life,” she says.

“It was good to know”

Fougberg reacted strongly to the first dose of the vaccine, and therefore chose to wait with the second dose until after the Stockholm Marathon, which was the last major competition of the 2021 season.

I had my second dose in mid-October and after that I started feeling noticeably worse.

She has never tested positive for the coronavirus, despite numerous tests, but she knows she may have had it without knowing it.

– I am in contact with our national team doctor, but there is not much they can do now. Getting an antibody test doesn’t help because they still can’t tell if you have Covid infection or if the antibodies come from the vaccine. It doesn’t really matter either, but somehow it was nice to know. She says the important thing is to be healthy.

Get psychological help

Fougberg says she has a good support system around her. Federation captain Kagsa Bergqvist and long-distance manager Lorenzo Nessi are in regular contact and she often brainstorms with coach Johann Vettergren. Additionally, she has access to a sports psychologist via RF (National Sports Federation).

– It’s very good to be able to talk, she says.

She doesn’t want to make any decisions about the future right now.

I am 36 years old, but marathons and running can be done for a very long time. I love to run, says Charlotte Vogberg, nothing makes me happier than running outside, so I will always do it.
