Now the 31-year-old has to put the skates on the shelf.

“As many know, I’ve been away from ice hockey for a long time due to injuries and therefore had to make the decision to end my career as an ice hockey player,” he told the Djurgården website.

During his active hockey career, Josephson represented the New Jersey Devils and the Buffalo Sabers in the NHL, but before the 2018/19 season he chose to return to Djurgården. There, before the trip abroad, he worked his way through the junior ranks of the Federation all the way to Team A.

– It was a very difficult decision, but over time I realized that it was the only right thing to do. I would like to say a big thank you to Djurgården IF and to the best fans in the world, you will always have a special place in my heart.

On the merit list, Josephson was, among other things, awarded JVM Silver, SM Silver and was named SHL Most Valuable Player in the 2018/19 season.

Hokkitan’s current

Earlier, Eskilstuna Corerin revealed that Jacob Josephson has taken on a coaching role in the Eskilstuna Linden hockey team.

– Because he moved from here to the city, so we made contacts and there are discussions going on, but he did not sign a contract. But sure, things may happen soon, Linden team manager Mats Anderson tells Eskilstuna Corerin.

However, the Director of Sports at Djurgården KG Stoppel would like Josephson to remain in the association’s organisation.

– Of course he must first return to normal life, and then there are, as I said, various dialogues that will develop over time. Jacob Josephson will certainly remain at Djurgården Hockey in a role going forward, he tells the club’s website.
