Swansea blasted off against Millwall – with two (!) own goals in injury time

Swansea were on their way to a comfortable home win against Millwall.

Then the host team managed to score two goals in stoppage time.

“I am very angry,” says Swansea’s coach, Russell Martin.

The tournament is in full swing and on Tuesday night Swansea were on the cusp of capturing their second three points of the season. The team got off to a great start at home against Millwall, with Ryan Manning scoring in the first minute.

When Michael Obafemi sent the goal 2-0 ten minutes later, many expected a home win. The result was also extra time.

But in the 93rd minute, Millwall reduced the difference thanks to Ben Kabango’s own goal. The goal came after a difficult play from the right wing.

And in the 95th minute it was time again. Once again a cross from the right wing of Millwall, and again an own goal from Swansea. This time it was Nathan Wood who unfortunately headed the ball into his own goal.

“It can’t happen”

For 93 minutes, we were clearly the best team in the match. But I have to take responsibility for that, because I control the mentality of the team, says Swansea coach Russell Martin, according to the BBC.

The ball went out for a throw-in and one of our players (who wasn’t on the court) quickly threw the ball to Millwall. I’m so angry about it, and I told him so. It just can’t happen. They had to take a throw-in quickly and we conceded a goal after that.

Thus the match ended with a score of 2-2, and both teams finally had to share the points. In the same series, Swede Ken Sima scored his goals for Watford when they played 1-1 away to Birmingham.
