Robin Fegren ends his career: “Natural hair”

Robin Fegren, 34, decided to retire.

Promotion with Swiss Kloten was the last thing he did on the hockey rink.

— It just feels a bit natural when you don’t keep up with the platforms, he says.

In the 2005/06 season, Ruben Vegren made his Elitserien debut with Frölunda.

Today, the 34-year-old Stockholmer announced, in his podcast “Släpp Sargen”, that he is ending his stellar career.

For Sportbladet, Fegren talks about the feeling that he is now retired from hockey.

– It’s actually quite a nice feeling. It would be a bit of a relief. However, a while passed and I decided I was done with ice hockey. So you really want to go out with her. It’s a little sad, of course. When it’s black and white, the thoughts are a little different and maybe a little closer to the feelings of the day, he says.

– I always had to train hard in pre-season to be able to complete the season. Felt a little normal. When you don’t keep up with the pallet, I already know now that the body won’t keep up with it, which would generate bad game and maybe even injuries that you have to respect.

After three seasons in the Swiss second division with Kloten, the contract expired last spring. Fegren had to end his career by transferring the old club to the First Division.

– What a damn end. It was a bit of what I felt right then and there, when we were able to win, it felt like this was the last game I had. At the same time, I could not live fully because I was not a hundred. It’s hard to see a better ending. It was good to end up winning. And also to be able to end things on his own terms, that there were no casualties on the way. I had to live as a hockey player, the way I wanted, until the last second of the game.

“Dick Takes Another Turn Around Christmas”

Was there any thought from you to help Djurgården get back to SHL?

– It was a conversation I actually missed, that KG (Stoppel, Sports Director at Djurgården) never picked up the phone. No, but it wasn’t there. I was clear early on that there would be no hockey, so that was absolutely not on my mind.

What will you bring in the future?

– I’m open to just about everything. I feel very humbled about the “real work life”. I haven’t decided yet what to do, today is my first day as a hockey retiree. We’ll see what life has to offer. But when it comes to career and employment, I’ve said I do everything from flipping burgers to becoming prime minister. I have a very wide range in between.

Which of you and Dick Axelson will come back first?

– lol! As a hockey player, that would probably be him. Fegren concludes that he’ll probably make another trip around Christmas if I may guess.
