Munich. Maja Nelson, 22, missed his second consecutive Grand Slam final.
After that it was completely broken.
I make a disaster result. Right now, I just want to sit in the corner and cry, says Sportbladet’s high jump afterwards.
Maya Nelson took to the big stage at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics when she stunned and reached the final.
There were rumors of a bright future.
But since then, most things have gone against the Motala girl.
Initially forced to have knee surgery, then she missed the final at WC in Eugene earlier this summer – and now there’s been another final loss here in EC as well.
“I can not explain”
The 22-year-old couldn’t even fly above 1.87 – an altitude she normally manages without problems with training – and afterwards she was terribly disappointed.
– I can’t explain what happened and why I jumped so hard, because I felt so good, she says.
– No… It’s a disastrous outcome.
– 1.87 is the worst competitive result I’ve had this season, when I felt worse. Of course it is very difficult not to succeed in a tournament when you want to feel your best.
“I want to cry”
The 22-year-old fought back tears as she walked through the mixed zone and was interviewed afterwards.
“I mostly feel like I just want to sit in the corner and cry,” she says.
– I was so desperate for revenge after the restroom and so intent on doing a better job here, but then it got worse and I have no explanation why….
Now one last competition awaits – Finnkampen at the beginning of September.
– Yes, Finnkampen will be the next and last of the season, says Maja Nilsson.
