Finn’s performance after the semi-finals: ‘Sweden is disgusted’

Finnish hockey is doing really well at the moment.

On Sunday night, Swedish time, the JVM team can complete a powerful trilogy.

“I bet Sweden is getting really disgusted with Finland’s usurping big brother status in hockey now,” Skriver Iltalehtis Columnist Rikko Isokowski.

Finland beat Sweden 1-0 in the JVM semi-final in Edmonton last night after Kasper Boteau scored the game’s only goal in the second half.

The junior crowns couldn’t get past the greats Guha Gatkula, so they had to make do with playing the bronze medal match against the Czech Republic.

For Finland, Canada awaits in the final and the chance to crown the absolutely crazy 2022 Finnish ice hockey tournament after the national team won the World Cup at home last spring and a few months earlier also the Olympic gold in Beijing.

In the JVM context, there have been three gold medals in the past nine years.

‘Beginning of disgust’

Finland is Sweden’s big brother, says Iltalehtis columnist Rikko Isokowski.

“The situation was completely turned upside down in regards to Sweden who had been considered big brother for several years. The performance of the Young Lions in the semi-final match was exemplary. For the budding national team, the performance was confusingly mature and confident.”

Parallel to Finnish success, Sweden went through some difficult years behind it. In the JVM context, it’s now ten years since the last gold and at the national team level, Tre Kronor hasn’t even reached the semi-finals in the WC context since taking the gold in 2018.
