Positive news for Christian Carlson: ‘Nothing breaks’

Christian Carlson, 31, was medically examined after injury in half of his EC.

Now he is fighting against the clock for the next major tournament.

You can compare it to a knife stab in the hand, he says.

Christian Carlson He was playing one of the biggest matches of his career last Saturday – the EC semi-final against Dacro Jorgic – when the accident happened.

It was exactly the same, 2–2 in the set and 5–5 in the continuous, when the Swede hit the corner of the table tennis table with all his might.

With the blood flowing, the 31-year-old was forced into the care of the medical team.

“Cutting a knife in the hand”

After a while, it was decided that he could not continue playing and Jorgic was judged to be the winner.

It was hard to be in one of the biggest matches of his career, two equal players and 5-5 and then something like that happened. It’s a hard blow. It’s tough now, says Christian Karlsson, when Sportbladet arrived from Munich the next day.

– I’m fine, but it’s heavy and I’m a little frustrated. But we got good news in the hospital and x-rays, so it was still positive.

What message did you receive?

– There was no broken leg, that was the important thing, and maybe there was no nerve damage either. They said you could compare it to a stab in the hand. Most of them are flesh and blood. It hurts a little bit now, but I’ve learned that it’s very good if it hurts. Then there is some kind of healing process. It is sad today.

battle against time

In six weeks, the next major table tennis tournament awaits, the restroom in Chengdu, China. The 31-year-old, ranked 19th in the world, is hoping to have time to recover by then.

– I hope that. Our doctor here said one to three weeks or so. It’s hard to tell how deep the wound itself is, but it will take some time. But it could have been worse.

Right after yesterday’s incident, Carlson said at SVT that he saw a piece of bone when he looked at his hand. But this was not true.

– I was so scared there. It was a mixture of meat and fat so it looked like a piece of bone. But fortunately it was not.

Regarding Sunday’s singles final between Dang Qui and Darko Jorgic, Carlson and Matthias Falk will take home their gold medal in the doubles they won earlier in the week. Falk also won a bronze medal in the singles.
