Before F1 at Spa 2022, Lando Norris is concerned: Money rules Formula 1

It’s racing week! It’s time for the Formula 1 races at Spa 2022. Although the competition is called the Belgian Grand Prix, it is Formula 1 at Spa that will be talked about next week.

The most exciting thing at the moment is the fact that F1 at Spa 2022 could be the last F1 race to be scheduled at Spa-Francorchamps itself. The track may be a favorite among drivers, but there is no contract for 2023.
Therefore, there is a risk that the Belgian Grand Prix will disappear.

Lando Norris, McLaren (TT)

That would be really sad, says McLaren star Lando Norris.
– It’s only about money today and that’s the problem. It’s just work.

Next year, F1 will run its third race in the USA, in Las Vegas, but also in Qatar. In addition, they are working for a race in China and one in South Africa, which means that many Grand Prixes may have to leave Formula 1.

Historic races may be forced out of F1

For example, Monaco has not yet signed a new contract, as well as the French Grand Prix, which has been decided in recent years at Circuit Paul Ricard. Now, Spa-Francorchamps is also risking leaving Formula 1.
– It’s one of the coolest courses of the year, says Lando Norris.
– It’s a historic race.

Ahead of this year’s sub-competition, the 7-kilometer track has undergone several renovations, among other things the take-off areas have been expanded and some of them gravel. The classic Eau Rouge and Raidillon have been reconstructed and given a 13,000-person amphitheater. In total, the entire renovation cost about 80 million euros.

Short news before F1 at Spa 2022

Concerns ahead of F1 at Spa 2022
Replaced by Antonio Giovannazzi? (AFP)

Antonio Giovannazzi is back in Formula 1. He runs first Friday practice for Haas in Monza, Italy, and in Austin, Texas and the United States. Antonio Giovannazzi made his F1 debut in 2019 and drove three seasons with Alfa Romeo before moving to Formula E where this year he competes with Dragon-Penske. He has led 62 GP races and will replace Kevin Magnussen on one occasion and Mick Schumacher on another.

But who will lead in 2023? Kevin Magnussen already had a contract, Mick Schumacher did not, however, team manager Gunther Steiner is clear on what the German must do to have the opportunity to extend his contract.
– He needs to score more points, Steiner tells GPFans.
Schumacher scored his first World Cup points earlier this summer, at Silverstone and in Austria. His best result so far came in Spielberg where he was sixth.

Bernie Ecclestone was tried in London. He is accused of withholding huge sums from the British state and of tax fraud, said to be close to 470 million euros. The former F1 teacher turned 91 years old, was present in the courtroom and was declared not guilty of any crime.
In theory, he could be sentenced to up to ten years in prison. The trial continues in a higher session on September 19, 2022.
