Portuguese João Henriques is currently the new AIK coach – and has been on site in Stockholm for about a week now.
Now Manuel Lindberg, CEO of AIK, confirms that they are having a conversation with the 49-year-old.
– We’ve talked to him, says Lindbergh.
Sportbladet revealed last Saturday that Portuguese Joao Henrix is the new coach of AEK. He is now in Stockholm and has been in Sweden for about a week. Among other things, he witnessed a match with the U19 team AIK and AIK’s matches against Slovako, among others, and was also present in the derby against Hammarby on Sunday afternoon.
Now AIK CEO Manuel Lindberg confirms Henriques is one of the candidates to take over at AIK.
– The Technical Council is the one who takes care of it. We will produce a number of candidates that will be evaluated at the end and then the board will finally make the decision.
– But we don’t have a designer coach at all, it’s an ongoing process. We are now meeting with different candidates, Lindberg says.

The fact that Joao Henrix has been here for several days now, is that a sign that it could be him?
– No, not more than anyone else. It’s the Technical Council, headed by Peter Weinberg, who runs it. We’ve talked to several coaches. We spoke to him (Joao Henrix) and spoke to many other coaches. It’s like the process and you have 60 days because Henok has a 60-day exemption.
But don’t you want something as soon as possible now?
– No, we want to make a structured process of different selection criteria so that it is correct. I think we met ten, maybe 20. There are many people who have registered their interest when such a situation arises. But we’re not in a hurry and Henok will have time.
