After a dramatic penalty shootout victory over Hungary, Sweden came under pressure to beat the Czech Republic in the final match of the group stage. A win was essential for the Swedish national team to avoid facing the United States or Canada in the quarter-finals.
There were no goals in the first half, but it was the Swedes who dominated the match.

“One of the best periods I’ve seen Sweden play in a long time,” SVT expert Maria Roth said about the first 20 minutes.
The main goal will come in the second half – but not for Sweden. Modu Vendola Pribilova managed to reach the Czech Republic 1-0 from a distance.

Then the Czech Republic extended its lead to 2-0 in the third game through Natalie Melenkova. A few minutes later, 3-0 was also sent to the open penalty area, which became the last goal of the match.
Despite the loss, Sweden captain Ulf Lundberg was relatively satisfied with the effort.
– I think there was a lot that succeeded today. But obviously we have to get the disc. The drive we have and the way we play is really fun, despite the loss, Lundberg tells SVT.
Jessica Adolfson is even more disappointed.
– Of course it’s very bitter. But at the same time they do not outdo us, we are the team that leads the match. She says, but we can’t get the disc.
As a result, Sweden finished second in the group, and thus awaits the United States or Canada in the quarter-finals.
