Ljungskile’s Ken Akamatsu swallowed his tongue after an altercation.
Varberg captain John Berkfeldt then acted quickly and helped.
– He was just down with the fingers and snapped, said Berkfeldt to Sportbildet.
It was in the second half, at the score of 0-3 in the cup meeting yesterday between Ljungskill and Varberg, that Ken Akamatsu, the home team’s player, hit a defender outside his home so hard that he swallowed his tongue.
– The ball is cleared away and I follow the ball so I don’t see what’s going on, but then when I look back I see he’s still quite lying down, then I walk up to him and see his uncontactable eyes, John Berkfeldt tells Sportbladet.
Help the opponent
Captain Varberg realized the seriousness and acted immediately.
– My first thought was to check that the tongue was right and it wasn’t, then it was down with the fingers and snapped.
Doctors were on the scene quickly and the Japanese from Ljungskile were able to leave the field on their own.
– I saw him after the match and he looked good so that was nice.
Feeling better today
Ljungskile’s coach, Eric Lund, texted Akamatsu during the morning.
– His father is on a visit from Japan so he had someone watching over him. Lund tells Sportbildit that he still feels comfortable and is a lot better today.
– Sure, a little change, but everyone’s fine today.
The match ended 4-0 against Varberg, who was ready for the group stage of the Swedish Cup.
