The management of the national ski team is opting out of high-altitude camps for skiers this summer.

– We paid for everything and I’m grateful I was able to leave, says Emma Rebum.
Typically, the Swedish National Ski Team offers skiers at least one camp at altitude for each pre season. The pandemic summer of 2020 was an exception, but other than that it has been the norm for several years.
But this summer, the national team management decided not to participate in the standings for financial reasons, among other things.
When Emma Reboom And the Jonah Sundling They were able to see the camp layout last spring, so they chose to act themselves. Earlier this summer, the duo went to Italian Lavazè for two weeks.
“Very cool weeks”
They paid for the camp themselves, with the help of private sponsors. Emma Rebom is grateful for this summer’s high-altitude training trip, as she told Sportbladet in her home country of Sweden:
– Jonah and I over the past year when we’ve been up for several days at a hike felt like it was something we really enjoyed. We launched this idea early last spring and realized we were excited to ride on a hike again. We had a wonderful weeks at Lavazè and I think we felt like we would have liked to stay longer. We had a good training and had a lot of fun on the side.
How do you see the national team choosing not to arrange camps at a height this water season?
– It’s not something I put a lot of energy into, but I had to solve it myself by going to my camp because I want to prioritize that. Then I understand that the national team does not prioritize that. We paid for everything ourselves, but are then grateful to our co-op partners who made this possible.
troubled time
Emma Riboom is having a turbulent time behind her with illness. Camp was a big boost after a tough spring, but even after the trip to Italy she fell ill.
I spent a few days in a hospital bed then. I had to be patient. It was like starting from the bottom, says Emma Rebom, who found her way back on track, in May.
The promising 24-year-old made an unexpected change of coach ahead of the WC season. She ended her collaboration with Joachim Abrahamsson and moved on to coach Stefan Thompson and his teammate. Magnus Engesson.
Jok and I have had many wonderful years and he has been really with me from the start. So many years have passed and I was curious to try something new and felt inspired to do it now, says Rebum.
The next camp for the national ski team will be at Planica, the WC site, in September.
