Elias Ymir gave Sweden a great start at the Davis Cup in Bologna.
He defeated Argentine Sebastian Baez after a tiebreak in the third set in an exciting match.
– It was a crazy match if I’m honest, Ymir says.
Sweden faced stiff opposition in their first Davis Cup match when Elias Ymir She pitted against Sebastian Baez, who was in the final at the Stadion last summer.
But Elias Yammer, ranked 119th in the world, was a blast against the 37th-placed Argentine.
He won after the tiebreak
Ymir won the first set 6-4 before Baez took the match into the deciding set with a 6-3 win in the second set. In the third set, Ymir led 5-2 and took three match points – but missed them all. Then Baez managed to catch up and take the match into the tiebreak.
In the tiebreak, Ymir came back and scored a deserved victory with a 7-4 victory.
– It was a crazy match if I’m honest. I thought I played really well and in the third set… Like I’ve said many times before, anything can happen in the Davis Cup. Ymir says in Victory on Track interview, I am very happy that I got over it and that victory is a big bonus.
Meet Croatia and Italy
The win gave Sweden a good start to the match against Argentina, which consists of a singles match and a doubles match. Sweden also faces Croatia and Italy in the Davis Cup group stage.
– As everyone knows, we are underdogs this week. I have to say we had a brutal group, and gave us a good start. Now we hope Mikael continues and anything can happen in the Davis Cup, says Elias Ymir.
The Swedish Davis Cup team consists of Mikael Ymir, Elias Ymir, Jonathan Merida, Karl Freiberg and Andre Goranson.
