Telia Play loses Premier League and National Hockey League

It may soon be time to change subscriptions for many Swedish sports fans.

It looks like Telia will lose all sports rights to Viaplay after negotiations between the TV houses broke down.

Customers using Telia Play have always been able to purchase subscriptions that also allow watching matches and sports events being broadcast Viaplay.

Among others, leagues such as Premier League and NHL in a subscription that costs 699 SEK per month on Telia Play.

Now it looks like Telia Play customers will miss out on all the sports from Viaplay after the end of September.

“Naturally boring”

During Thursday, Telia and Viaplay Group announced that the two parties were unable to agree on an extension of their previous agreement and would not take place before the end of the month.

– I don’t think that’s going to happen, says Roberta Allenius, Director of Communications at Viaplay Group.

It would be sad, of course, to end up there, but we have a strong portfolio with attractive content and will inform our customers as soon as possible what this means, says Erin Kron, Telia’s director of press.
