Maybe not the best, but the biggest – Andreas Kak on Roger Federer

Roger Federer, 41, is ending his career, and unfortunately it looks as predictable as it is sad.

The debate over who is the greatest tennis player of all time will continue until the day Rafa Nadal and Novak Djokovic retire as well.

But Federer is undoubtedly the greatest.

People walked and shivered for the day.

on condition Roger Federer Suffering from injuries for several years, he hasn’t played a professional match since Wimbledon 2021, and on top of that turning 41, this was an expected announcement in every way.

I’m too young to remember his early accomplishments, but I do remember all the epic fights with Rafa Nadal that have captivated tennis fans for over a decade and have developed into the fiercest competition we’ve seen in the sport.

The 2008 Wimbledon final is a classic final, hailed by many as the greatest match of all time.

A four-hour, 48-minute thriller in which Nadal eventually won 6-4, 6-4, 6-7, 6-7, 9-7.

An incredible match that should have symbolized the breaking point when Federer’s complete dominance was broken and where Nadal finally ran to catch up and pass.

Maybe not the best – but the biggest

Now Roger Federer is retiring at the age of 41 and he has done so with 20 Grand Slam titles to his credit.

Nadal is 22 years old and still active, but he is struggling with injuries and also starting to approach the finish line.

Novak Djokovic is 21 years old and it is assumed that he will play for another three, four or five years.

So, who is really the greatest of all time?

If the discussion were to start who had won the most Grand Slam titles, Federer would never win. It can also be argued that Djokovic – in his prime – played the best tennis the world has ever seen.

But neither Djokovic nor Nadal played the sport with the same elegance, subtlety and sheer spontaneity that Federer has.

No one was loved and no one was missed.

That’s why Roger Federer is the greatest.
