Elias Peterson on tough times in the NHL: ‘Focus on the wrong things’

Elias Peterson is in British Columbia and did his first training with the Vancouver Canucks.

The 23-year-old center says the tough start to the season last fall was due to a lack of confidence.

– I focused on the wrong things, he told the Vancouver Sun.

The 2020/2021 season was missing Elias Peterson The last 30 games due to a wrist injury.

Prior to last season, he missed training with the team due to contract negotiations.

Then, three months ensued during which Elias Peterson struggled to tone down the game.

“suck”

Then he talked about the problems due to the injury and that he played with the wrong club for several months.

In the team’s first training of the season, he was interested in talking about those explanations.

I didn’t play with as much confidence as I used to. It’s annoying, says Elias Peterson, but I’m glad I had this experience.

“No exact answer”

The new three-year contract signed on October 1 brought in an annual salary of $7.35 million, making him the second highest-paid player on the team behind Queen Hughes.

Expectations were higher than was justified. I was focusing on the wrong things, on what people wanted to see from me rather than on myself. I don’t have an exact answer as to why this happens. I’m convinced I learned from him, and now I feel a lot better ahead of this season, says Elias Peterson.

“I’m still learning”

The season that begins on October 7 will be the fifth in the SHL for the star from Ånge.
