German hockey is affected by a potentially huge scandal.
38-year-old Yannick Seidenberg, one of the country’s greatest ever, has been arrested on suspicion of doping.
– I am convinced that he is innocent, says his teammate Moritz Muller.
Yannick Seidenberg has played over 1,000 Bundesliga matches, 173 caps, ten World Cups, and was a key player in the German team that won the silver medal at the 2018 Olympics.
Now his reputation is under threat.

Deviation from the norm
The National Anti-Doping Organization (NADA) wrote that routine doping testing associated with recent training deviated from the norm.
It was not known at the time of writing what substance was found in the star’s test, but EHC Red Bull Munich has also opted to suspend him from all hockey activity until further notice.

Seidenberg has not spoken himself, but Germany national team captain Moritz Muller is defending the 38-year-old.
– I don’t know all the details, but I know that Yannick is not a dauber. If you have intentionally doped, then of course you should be punished, but this is not the case with Yannic. There must be another unknown explanation, Muller tells the Süddeutsche Zeitung newspaper.
It also informs that Seidenberg is not ready to make a statement yet.
– I spoke to him this morning and he’s totally broken, says Mueller.
