Take the step from coach to analyst
Halmstads has convinced BK this year.
Now they stormed towards the Allsvenskan – that with the former Allsvenskan coach in the background.
“I work on the materials and the gross, and then our team works on how to get the grid for the players together,” Billy Olson tells Sportbladet.
Halmstad had a great season leading the Premier League. After 23 games, they are eight points from the qualifying zone and there is a lot to be said for their promotion.
The man behind this success is the veteran club analyst Billy Olson. The reason for employment was the desire to work with Magnus Haglund.
“I had a clear idea”
He (Magnus Haglund) I had a clear idea of working together. We talked about it many times when we worked as coaches at Allsvenskan for many years. Billy Olson tells Sportbladet he’s from Halmstad and I’ve played here, and we have HBK in us.
– We always sit next to each other at work, Magnus and I. I calculate the material and the total value, then our team works out how to connect the network to the players together.
The last time he was active at Allsvenskan was in 2017 when the 57-year-old coached AFC Eskilstuna. Now he is no longer working as a head coach, instead he has the role of Analyst/Scout, a job he totally enjoys.
– I am an assistant coach mainly responsible for analyzing opponents and our matches. Then I’m off the field and driving some rehearsals in training, I’m really enjoying it a lot.
“More flexible in the way we play”
Longing to return to the football elite
His previous assignment was as a coach/athletic director at Sandviken in Division 1 North. The desire to work with gamers full time was too great when the show came up.
– What attracted me is working with fully professional players again, it’s a completely different existence, you get more time with the players, says Olson.
The 57-year-old has a track record with 15 years as head coach at Gefle, two and a half seasons at Djurgården and two other assignments as an assistant coach.
“This year we were more flexible”
Olsson joined Halmstad after the 2020 season. Since then, he has seen his demotion from the Allsvenskan. This year it is about to be taken up again.
– This year we have been more flexible in the way we play. Then whether we are better or worse compared to previous years, I don’t know. He says we have maintained a high and stable standard.
The foundation of all matches must always be there. How do we play the positioning defense, work with two attackers, while we play with the attackers and be aggressive.
“There is no prohibition”
One of the players he has chosen to feature this year is midfielder Casper Carlson, born in 2005.
We hope that our talents will continue to develop and take steps. Then there’s Kazper Carlson’s player who is fifth, and he doesn’t stop at how amazing he is. He is already a regular with us.
– He is a player who can take a step into Europe from us.
On Saturday afternoon at 17.00 Halmstad plays against Uster in the Premier League.
