Hampus Finndell has found the right place in Djurgården.
The midfielder now wants to sink IFK Göteborg – and the Blue Stripes move is getting closer to a major goal this season.
Winning SM gold with Djurgården would have been a childhood dream to come true, says Finndell.
Two years ago, midfielder Humpus Fendel sat on the bench of Dalcord in Subritan. Djurgarden They decided to lend the young talent because they did not want to bet on him.
But after two years, everything changed. The 22-year-old Finndell is a key player for Djurgården, who plays in the Europa Conference group stage and is fighting for SM Gold. Sportbladet spoke to Wendel after the 3-2 win over Molde last Thursday.
It’s really good to win this European match. We play a lot of matches now and as a player you want to play every match. But there are many matches now and we meet IFK Gothenburg It’s Sunday, so it’s important that everyone is ready to play too, says Fendel.
How do you feel about the fact that you started off the bench against Moldy last time?
Obviously, I want to play every game and feel fresh. But there are a lot of matches at the moment. It’s tight and we want all the players on the team to be fresh.

I’ve been in Djurgården for a while and so you can compare the pressure in the stands to what it was before. Do you feel like fans have reached a new level now?
– I agree with you. There is unbelievable pressure in the stands and I think it’s been since I started playing here. But I think it’s actually quite magical. It’s really cool to experience this, I’m 22 years old.
– It’s really cool.
Djurgården was rumored to leave this summer, how has the summer been taking the interest of foreign clubs?
– Yes, you go fast in football. Two years ago I was in Dalkurd and slipped into the first division. Then I realized there is interest when you are young and I am 22 years old. But I don’t know how close I am to leaving. I enjoy playing at Djurgården and being part of this club.
How do you say you settled in the club?
– Good question. No, but there were good colleagues and good coaches and I found the role that suited me. The coaches gave me confidence from the first moment, not only from the coaches but also I have players and teammates around me who trust me.
What would you say you have developed the most so far?
– I would say that I have become more able to run. I feel like I can run on longer surfaces. Then I feel like I got to more finishing, got closer to the penalty area and hit more balls there.

You are a midfielder and the competition to come abroad in this particular position is fierce at Allsvenskan. What are your thoughts on that?
Of course I have a goal to get as far as possible in my career, but I can’t answer when, how, where it will be or what will happen. I feel good in Djurgården and I enjoy playing here. Then when that day comes, I’ll have to deal with it next.
– But I know it’s more difficult to travel abroad as an internal midfielder too. He’s an important part of the team and I think I’m taking steps with every game, so we’ll see how far you go.
What would you say that Kim Bergstrand and Thomas Lagerlöf about your development?
– Incredibly much. I have never felt this kind of confidence from any other coach in my career. I’m still very young, but to have that confidence and to have this opportunity that I have, I feel so good. I am very grateful for that.
– that I still had the chance all the time, although personally I probably didn’t think it went 100 percent every time.
What does it mean for SM to win a gold medal with Djurgården?
– Oh, I can’t even think of it. I think I’m going to get incredibly emotional in a very positive way. A boy’s dream would come true.
