The wives of England players live on a banana island in the World Cup in Qatar

We will spare no expense when the wives and children of the England football team go to the World Cup in Qatar this winter.

They have to check in – on Banana Island.

The luxury resort where rooms cost 70,000 SEK per night.

The 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar – a country accused of violating basic human rights and where guest workers worked in unsanitary conditions and died during the construction of the tournament – has been heavily criticized.

Now the Daily Mail reports that the England national team has laid their hands on one of the region’s most luxurious hotels.

But not for the players, but for their wives and children.

Qatar Maldives

According to the newspaper, the families were booked into a luxury resort on “Banana Island” – an island off the coast of the capital, Doha, a 25-minute boat ride from the mainland.

The resort is marketed as “Qatar Maldives” and a room costs 70,000 SEK per night.

In addition to its own beach and several large swimming pools, the property also has a helipad, in case you don’t want to get to the mainland by boat.

Players get a newly built hotel

The players, in turn, were booked into the newly built five-star hotel in Al Wakra Market. The Daily Mail called it “the best possible base for the World Cup”. Rooms here cost about 3,000 SEK per night, and the entire hotel will be closed to “regular guests” from October, when it will be set up for the England national team’s stay.
