Emiliano Sala28, had just been sold from Nantes to Cardiff and was about to fly across the Channel.
But the plane crashed, killing both soccer player and pilot David Ibbotson.
Businessman David Henderson, who arranged the flight, was previously sentenced to 18 months in prison for endangering the safety of the plane, and now new information about the accident has emerged.
The words before the collapse
In leaked audio files obtained by the BBC, David Ibbotson spoke to a friend before the flight. The pilot then tells us that the Piper Malibu is “bad” and that he heard a bang during a previous flight.
– I was flying and suddenly there was a bang. I thought “what’s wrong?”. So I checked all the parameters, everything was fine and the plane kept flying but it caught one’s attention, Ibbotson says.
“I have to go back”
Then the pilot goes on to say that some form of “fog” previously appeared in Piper Malibu. In addition, he discovered problems with the left brake pedal.
– This plane must return to the hangar, says Ibbotson to his friend.
– I usually put the life jacket between the chairs, but tomorrow I will wear the life jacket.
Emiliano Sala was the most expensive Cardiff player ever when he was bought from Nantes. The Court of Arbitration for Sport, Kass, recently ruled that the club must pay 64 million kroner to Nantes.
