Sports Power Scale 2022: Zlatan Number One
A new survey shows that Pontus Hugosson is one of the most influential Swedish sports figures on social media.
He combines investment and a distinguished career.
For Sportbladet, Hugosson tells, among other things, about success on Instagram, why he hides his private life and why Not He regrets his participation in a “farmer looking for a wife”.
– But I won’t do it again, he says.
Each year, the Media Academy conducts a survey on who has the most influence in social media. The Power Meter is a list of Swedish accounts that reach the most people and get the most interaction between their followers and followers.
At the same time, the Media Academy is also compiling an “Athletic Strength Scale”, which shows the most influential athletes and teams on social media.
Topped last year’s list by Zlatan Ibrahimovic, the 41-year-old is now number one ahead of the Swedish Football Association and Charlotte Kalla again this year.
Pontus Hogson was surprised
In eighth place, a rocket that wasn’t even on the sports dynamometer last year. It even gets to fifth place if you count only the individual athletes.
– I think it’s so much fun. I haven’t been active in the past few weeks and months, so the fact that I’m on the list is pretty funny, says Pontus Hugoson, 32.
Do you feel you have any strength?
Pontus Hugoson laughs a lot when he answers.
– I’m mostly at home and don’t decide here, I don’t think so, so it’s not how I feel.
What makes Pontus Hugosson more influential on social media than all Swedish football teams according to the Media Academy?
Hugosson has probably more than 130,000 followers on Instagram, who, among other things, can see him skiing and skating after horses. However, he does not spend much time on social media content at the moment.
– Some other things have passed before last year. I had pneumonia and when I recovered from it a horse kicked in my chest, he says.
Elite level in field competition
For the list among other lineups and sports teams, Hugosson is, of course, not just an influencer on horses. By now, he could already be in France riding in the cross-country competition.
“I’m out competing a little bit in Europe, so I really prefer to call myself a field competition rider,” he says.
Elite-level competition and social media “content” creation go hand in hand. He also trains other horses and helps others create content.
It’s good to have so many things to choose from. I’ve come to appreciate this freedom more, although now I feel like I’d like to go back and be more active on social media.
Hugosson believes humor is what gets people to follow the account on Instagram.
I do funny things that people may have never seen before, or that I think are interesting and funny. I don’t present much of myself privately, like many who use social media do. I’m more into doing graphics and humour.
Participate in “Farmer Looking for a Wife”
Faithful followers of the dating program “Bonde sörker fru” who read the first part of the article may think that the name Pontus Hugosson sounds familiar. This is also because Pontus Hugosson was on the show in 2015 and broke the record for the number of messages from women they wanted to date.
Hojoson has also appeared on the TV show ‘Talang’, along with his little horse, but he doesn’t think that being on TV is behind the success on Instagram.
– “Bonde” may have given me a boost at first, but my audience isn’t just Swedes, and my international audience hasn’t followed through this entire trip. So I think it helped a little bit at first but today I think only old people remember it. Young people hardly know.
You say you don’t give much about your own life, is this because you gave so much in the past?
Partially it may be. Then maybe I think I’m a little uninterested. People might think that if you hang out with me one day, you laugh all the time, and that I’m super funny, but that’s not the case. It might be hard to judge yourself, but I’m probably not what some followers think.
“I won’t do it again”
Pontus Hugoson remembers his time as a farmer looking for a wife.
– Maybe I didn’t really understand the point, it was really an experience to feel what it was like to present yourself in this way. In retrospect, I might be thinking “why is it really cool, it’s not that interesting, is it?”. I’m not the type to be curious about people’s private lives.
Do you regret joining?
– No, I had a position that I took earlier then and has held it ever since. I’m glad I did but I won’t do it again. This describes it well.
It was definitely an experience that you realize doesn’t happen to everyone, but once I did, I definitely didn’t want to repeat it again.
