Rebekah Vardy has to pay nearly SEK 19 million in legal costs to Colin Rooney.
Wayne Rooney’s wife won the high-profile “WAGatha Christie” case last summer.
It’s now been three years since the Football Wives Colin Rooney (Wayne Rooneys wife) and Rebecca Vardy (wife of Jamie Vardy) got into a fight.
After he set off the trap, Vardy accused his ex-boyfriend of leaking private information to The Sun.
“I have saved and photographed all the posts which clearly shows that only one person can see it. That person is… Rebekah Vardy,” Rooney wrote in October 2019.
Extra difficult sentence
Vardy then tried to sue Rooney for defamation, but in July, the ruling fell in favor of the latter. At that time, the British media reported that Rebecca Vardy will have to pay about ten million kronor in legal costs, but the amount will be higher.
The Guardian has now written that Vardy is forced to pay 90 per cent of Rooney’s legal costs, a greater percentage than in many similar cases.
The judge was very harsh on Vardy because she intentionally deleted her chat messages and other evidence related to the trial.
This means that Vardy needs to pay Rooney £800,000 immediately, and then she has to give her a total of £1.5 million. That is approximately 19 million Swedish kronor.
“Publicly Humiliated”
When Vardy’s legal costs are factored in, her bill could total more than three million pounds – more than 37 million Swedish kronor.
And so the case – which has been dubbed WAGatha Christie – ends with a major financial blow for Rebecca Vardy.
