According to Martin Buquist, it was Glenn Solberg who fired him from the position of assistant captain of the national team.
Four months later, Solberg admitted that it was.
– I wanted to choose my own assistant. For my part, it was important to make this change, now the captain of the Handball Federation tells SVT.
It was in an interview with Sportbladet in June, two months after he quit his job as assistant captain of the national team, Martin Boquist claimed it was Glenn Solberg which led to his expulsion.
– said Boquist: – Everything else that Glenn, who did not want to keep me, was sheer nonsense.
Solberg did not respond to this accusation. Among other things, Sportbladet tried to talk to the Norwegian about this fall, but he refused.
But ahead of the upcoming national team week, Solberg is now giving his view to SVT.
– from my point of view. Martin and I applied for the job as captain of the national team. When I got it, one of the conditions was that Martin (as an assistant) stay, I couldn’t influence that. It turns out that we are very different, we see things in different ways, we have different values, and we view leadership in different ways, he says.

National team manager Hana Vogelstrom denied in an interview with Sportbladet in June that it was Solberg who fired Boquist.
But for SVT, Solberg admits he’s clearly had an impact.
– When we came home from the European Commission and I thought ‘what can we do now to take new steps and take Swedish handball even further’, the picture was that I wanted to choose my own assistant. Someone who championed the same values as me and believes in the leadership we have received. For me, it’s very natural for a leader at this level to choose his or her mainstays, says Solberg.
But it may seem strange that an important leader stops after gold, seems to work…?
Many things have succeeded and others have not. When you are at the level we are, you want to improve everything. For me, it was important to make that change, he tells SVT.
