Jan Lorentzon dies – SVT Sport icon turned 82

Jan Lorentzon, a famous SVT sports reporter, has died.

Arne Hegerforce mourns for a colleague who always wanted to highlight athletes – but himself was rarely seen.

Janne Lorentzon has been incredibly active when it comes to finding things from all over the world, especially soccer in Europe. Lorentzon has been seriously ill lately

Jan Lorentzon was born in 1940 in Nyköping and became a sports reporter in the 1960s SVT. He commented on athletics, fencing and boxing, but is best known for his summaries of international football. – He was friendly. A year ago he suddenly called and said “Good sports mirror over there”. When I asked how it was, he just said “Thank you, thank you, have a good time, hello”. It was so. Nystrom says he hasn’t made much of himself.

Seems old fashioned in a good way?

– yes. He was a very generous person who raised the flag of televised sports very high. An important cog in the wheel.

Arne Hegerfors has worked for a long time with Janne Lorentzon and is grieving the death of his friend.

– He’s so sad. He was a good companion and sort of a stabilizer in the editorial office with his cheerful expressions. I remember that there was a lot of the phrase “Listen to the dodo, hear the dododo.”

“One of the rocks in the little gang”

Doesn’t he seem to have sought the limelight?

– No, he was happy with the position he had. He didn’t seem to be fighting for any top positions but he loved the sport and didn’t mind working with the tasks he was given. And then he had a very good voice on radio and television, and was good at reading news telegrams. This was his strongest point.

Jens Lind began playing televised sports in 1986 and remembers a warm colleague.

Jean is one of the rocks in the little gang. He was a very kind man and fellow who found his place in an editorial office with many powerful individuals. He loved boxing and English football. I think he knew all the heavyweight matches with his five fingers.

– From various meetings, I remember that he was especially involved in matters of unauthorized advertising. And he didn’t hesitate to cancel matches at Sportnet if he discovered something was wrong.

Jan Lorentzon is survived by his wife Ewa, sons Jacob and Daniel, and grandchildren.
