Another former national team player is ending his career.
Ola Toivonen, 36, has now announced that he will retire after the season.
– I feel like it’s time. The motivation is there, but the body isn’t quite in line, he tells the club’s website.
Last week, Sebastian Larsson and Mikael Lustig announced that they would be leaving after the season ended. done now Malmo FF:s Ola Toivonen same.
About a month ago, I pulled Daniel (Anderson) aside and said we didn’t need to think about an extension. Not many people around me know I’m going to quit, maybe it’s my mom, dad, my wife. But now he says to the club’s website: It feels so beautiful, and continues:
– I feel like it’s time. The motivation is there, but the body doesn’t quite keep up with it. I had a serious injury and fought through it and didn’t have high expectations, but it went better than almost expected when I came back. Then there was hope that it would continue through the fall, but the results and playing time were really poor from the team and me.
“Nothing to complain about”
Tuvenen came to MFF from Degerfors in 2006. The professional adventure has moved to PS Eindhoven and since then has represented Stade Ranis, Toulouse, Sunderland and Melbourne.
The striker returned to the MFF from the Australian national team two years ago.
– When I came back to Malmö, I said it would be fun to win SM gold. Now I’m sitting here after a few years and I won twice, a Gold Cup and a Europa League group stage match. In general, there is nothing to complain about, he says.
Tovonen will be celebrated during Allsvenskan’s last match of the season against parent club Degerfors.
